The N.C. School of the Arts has but one more hurdle to clear before it can put a "U" in front of its name.
The University of North Carolina board of governors, meeting in the Spangler Building in Chapel Hill, voted yesterday to recommend changing the arts school's name to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
The vote, following brief comments by two governors, was unanimous.
No opposition was voiced at the meeting, but several governors said that they had received letters from NCSA alumni opposing the name change.
The proposed name change will now go before the General Assembly, which will begin meeting May 13 in Raleigh. It will become official if approved by that body.
