■ Rodney Brewington, the defensive coordinator at Atkins the past three seasons, has been hired as the head football coach at Greensboro Smith.

Brewington, 33, praised Coach Mike Winbush of Atkins for helping him grow as a coach, and he said he felt ready for the challenge of Smith, which has been downtrodden in recent seasons.
"Everybody is excited and we want to transfer that excitement onto the field," Brewington said.
■ Jennifer Anderson, the women's tennis coach at Guilford College for the past seven years, has been hired as the girls tennis coach at Bishop McGuinness, according to Jeff Stoller, McGuinness' athletics director.
Anderson will replace Maria Moerk, who resigned last month after three seasons to spend more time with her family. Anderson, a 1996 graduate of Guilford who will continue working at the college until early August, was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference coach of the year in 2006.
■ Forbush will hold a weight-lifting competition Saturday starting at 9 a.m. in association with Reagan High.
