Chris Paul vowed yesterday to bring a star attraction to his third annual Chris Paul's Winston-Salem Weekend in September.

"I'll show you my gold medal when I come to the Weekend," Paul said with a smile.

On the day that he was officially named to the U.S. Olympics basketball team, Paul unveiled plans for this year's Winston-Salem Weekend during a news conference.

The dates are set for Sept. 18-21, with many of the staples from previous years -- a youth basketball clinic, a celebrity bowling tournament, a day devoted to volunteering, a formal banquet, a community church service and after-church social.

A new addition to the festivities this year will be a concert at Joel Coliseum on Thursday, Sept. 18. The performers for that concert will be announced at a later date.

The previous two Weekends have raised more than $250,000 for Paul's CP3 Foundation, with several NBA players, including fellow Olympians LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade and Dwight Howard, participating in the past. This year's list of celebrities will be announced later, but Paul said he hoped to talk many of his Olympics teammates into joining him while the team is in Beijing.

Paul said that proceeds of this year's Weekend will be split among the Salvation Army Boys and Girls clubs, Feed the Children, Meals on Wheels, and the Special Olympics.

Last year, proceeds went to Forsyth Co. Habitat for Humanity. Before that, the CP3 Foundation gave $110,000 to Wake Forest for a scholarship endowment, and refurbished the courts at the Rupert Bell Community Center.

"The Rupert Bell court, that seems so, so long ago," Paul said. "But just to think of all the things we've done is such a great feeling. What is great about this year is we're giving out to more than just one group. Last year with Habitat for Humanity was great, but this gives us an opportunity to quote, unquote spread the wealth where a lot more people get an opportunity to work with us and we get an opportunity to put a smile on more kids' faces. And that's what it's all about."

More information and applications for each specific event can be obtained through Octagon, Paul's management team, by contacting Jennifer Keene at 703-905-3309 or sending e-mail to Keene at CPWSW@octagon.com. Spots in the bowling tournament start at $300 per individual or $1,000 for a five-man team. Tables for 10 at the Banker's Ball start at $3,000.

"In his first year with us, Chris said, ‘What I want to do with my marketing, I want to give back to the community and the school that nurtured me,' which I thought was an amazing thing to say for somebody who had just come out of his second year at Wake Forest," said Tom George of Octagon. "The stated goal of the CP3 Foundation is to make Winston-Salem and greater Forsyth County a better place to live and work. Chris also has the objective of making it a more prominent place nationally."
