Chris Paul, the former Wake Forest star who led the New Orleans into the NBA Western Conference finals, was one of 12 players named to the U.S. Olympics basketball team today.
The team also features Olympics gold medalist Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks) and four 2004 Olympians. It was announced by Jerry Colangelo, the managing directory of the USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team.
The Olympics will be in Beijing, China, Aug. 8-24.
Besides Paul and Kidd, the players named to the U.S. team are Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets); Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz); Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors); Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers); Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic); LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers); Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons); Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks); Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat); and Deron Williams (Utah Jazz).
Coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke is the head coach of the U.S. team.
Also, Paul announced today in Winston-Salem that his third Chris Paul Winston-Salem Weekend will be Sept. 18-21. The proceeds from the weekend will benefit the Salvation Army Boys and Girls clubs, Meals on Wheels and Special Olympics.
