Hunter Furr of Mount Tabor finished third in the 200 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at N.C. A&T in Greensboro yesterday.
Furr completed the race in a time of 21.54. He has committed to play football at North Carolina.
Mike Shaw of Trotwood, Ohio, won the race in a time of 21.19 and Dentarius Locke of Tampa, Fla., was second in a time of 21.52.
Three other runners from North Carolina finished in the top six -- Fuqauwn Greene of New Bern was fourth (21.65), Samuel Jordan of Wilmington was fifth (22.03) and Darryl Williams of Jacksonville was sixth (22.05).
Dylan Ferris, an East Forsyth graduate, finished fifth in the 800-meter run at the USATF Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, last night.
Ferris completed the race in a time of 1:49.49. He has signed to run track at Stanford.
Elijah Greer won the race in a time of 1:47.68 and Zachary Mellon was second in a time of 1:48.64. Both runners ran unattached. Donte Holmes of Delaware State was third in 1:48.66 and Tyler Fogerty of Albany was fourth in 1:48.83.
In the women's shot put heptathlon, Gabby Gioia of North Carolina finished third with a throw of 33-091/4. Jessica Flax of the Texas Storm was first with a throw of 35-033/4 and Danielle Sampley of Kentucky was second with a throw of 33-091/2. Gioia was 13th in the 200-meter dash of the heptathlon. She finished in a time of 27.14.
Devotia Moore of Duke finished sixth in the 800-meter run. She finished in a time of 2:09.81.
