KERNERSVILLE -- Robert Glenn "Bob" Anderson, 59, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. He was born January 20, 1949, in Wilkes Co. to Minnie Johnson Anderson and the late Glenn "Wigg" Anderson. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea during the Vietnam War Era. He was a long time member of the Greensboro and Winston Salem ice hockey booster clubs, as well as an avid bowler. Bob was a loving husband, dad, and papaw, and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wigg & Steve Anderson. In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 38 years, Pat D. Anderson; two sons, Bobby Anderson (Jessica), and Joey Anderson (Nancy); five sisters, Pat Goforth, Phyllis Carter, Vicki Anderson, Melinda Mobley, and Lisa Wilson; nine grandchildren; Alyssa, Brittany, Cainon, Kristen, Aaron, Tiffany, Nicholas, Hunter, and Grant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral was conducted at Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel, in Kernersville, with Pastor Kevin Jenkins, Pastor Danny Hauser, and the Rev. S. KERNERSVILLE -- Coy Horace Bolick, Jr., 85, of Kernersville, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008. A graveside service was held Friday, May 30, at Danview Cemetery, Eden. Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville.
KERNERSVILLE -- David Ivan "Meathead" Day, 55, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday May 26, 2008, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 616 S. Cherry Street, Kernersville, NC, with Father Joseph Tustin O.S.F.S. officiating. A native of Monroe, Michigan, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Clara Milliman and Thomas Raymond Day. He graduated from Monroe High School in Michigan, Class of ‘ 71. He was married to Kathleen Mary Sims on May 27, 1972. He was employed with H&H Auto Sales, Detroit Tubular Rivet, and Guardian Glass all in Michigan. He also worked for Roadway Express, in Ohio, until his transfer in 1992, brought him and his family to Kernersville. He was preceded in death by his sister Laura Kurzhals. Survivors include his wife Kathy Sims Day; daughter Traci Day; sons David Day II and his wife Heather; and Nick Day and his wife Nicole: five grandchildren Zach, Seth, Chasity, Ethan, and Alyssa; sisters Grace Hall and her husband Phil of Michigan, and Judy Fay and her husband Mike of Gastonia; brother-in-law Earl Kurzhals of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. KERNERSVILLE -- Jimmy Lee Echols, Sr., 73, passed away at his home on May 27, 2008. A funeral was held Friday May 30, 2008, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 213 W. Mountain Street. Interment followed in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with full Police Department detail. A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Ina Mae Wall and Clifton Eugene Echols. He retired as a sergeant with the Kernersville Police Department in 1995. Jimmy thoroughly enjoyed his trapping of minks and muskrats. Wildlife and birds were his love and hobby. He was a member of the Tar Heel Cutlery Club. Survivors include his loving wife Myrtle B. Echols, of the home; daughter Lisa Dawn Echols Beasley and her husband Mark of Walnut Cove; son Jimmy L. KERNERSVILLE -- William Tyree Gilliam, 90, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Salemtowne Retirement Community. Tyree was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Guilford County, the youngest child of Mary Ida Idol and Henry David Gilliam. He grew up in Kernersville and graduated from Sedge Garden High School and Guilford College. He taught school at Oak Ridge and Riverdale Country School in New York. In 1942, he enlisted in the Armed Services serving until 1946 in the Army Air Corps. On July 3, 1945, he was married to Julia Jenkins Smith at Kernersville Moravian Church. After World War II, he and Julia lived in Winston-Salem where he worked for the VA and Western Electric. In 1950, he joined Compton' s Encyclopedia (later bought by Encyclopedia Britannica). He worked in Alabama as the state manager, in Minneapolis as the district manager and in Houston as the zone manager. Tyree and Julia returned to Kernersville in 1976. They are presently members of Kernersville Moravian Church. Tyree was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Julia; daughters Mollie Ledwith (Ron) of Ridgewood N.J., and Martha Currise of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren Will Ledwith (Gina) of Guilford, Conn.; Katie Ledwith of Philadelphia, Pa.; Julie Currise of Indianapolis; Kristen C. Smith (Tim) of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Jennifer C. Frazier (Beau) of Atlanta, Ga.; and great-grandchildren Liam Ledwith and Mason Smith. A memorial service was conducted Monday, June 2, at Salemtowne Saal, with the Rev. Don Winters and Linda Browne officiating. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn Gilliam and Ellsworth Cross Riley. Survivors include her husband Leon M. COLFAX -- Mr. Delvin Coy Idol, 54, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at High Point Regional Hospital. Delvin was born in Guilford County to Coy E. and Helen Motsinger Idol. He was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and was employed with I.L. Long Construction Co. Delvin loved to play baseball; he played from Little League through High Point College. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and mother. Survivors include his father, Coy "Cricket" Idol; wife Marilyn Kash Idol; a son, Austin Idol; a daughter, Kimberly Idol; and two sisters, Denise I. Linville and husband Dudley and Ronda I. WALKERTOWN -- Gary Anthony Keen, 52, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 29, 2008, due to an automobile accident. A native of Lambertville, N.J., Mr. Keen was born Aug. 19, 1955, the son of Raymond and Susan B. Anthony Keen. He was a master barber and owned several barber shops in Pennsylvania before moving to North Carolina. He was the owner/operator of Gary' s Barber Shop in Walkertown, and for the past two years he was the owner/operator of White Rock Barber Shop in Winston-Salem. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. Gary loved his Lord, his wife, family and friends. He loved his pastor, Dr. Bobby Robertson; and his Sunday school teacher, Pastor Frank Shumate. Jeff Johnson was a special friend and was always there for him, and Mark Potts met him at the altar and led him to Christ. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Keen; sister Donna Dutrica; and father-in-law the Rev. Howard Lane Baker. Surviving are his wife, Deborah Baker Keen of Summerfield; mother Susan B. Anthony Keen of Auburndale, Fla.; stepdaughter Sabrina Carithers of Oak Island, a brother, Bruce Keen of Levittown, Pa.; two sisters, Cindy Clark and husband Gary and Debbie Szczucckie and husband Barry, all of Auburndale; mother-in-law Helen Baker of King; and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Walkertown. There was no formal visitation. KERNERSVILLE -- Natalie Ladd McCoy, 49, died Thursday, May 29, 2008. A native of Forsyth County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Houston Ladd, and Peggy Lee Lasley who survives. Survivors include her daughters, Zabrina McCoy Carson and her husband, Barry, of Kernersville and Angela McCoy Bellow and her husband, Kevin, of Oak Ridge; mother Peggy Lee Lasley of Kernersville; grandson Skylar Houston Gallimore; granddaughter Vegas Nikole Bellow; sister Rhonda Ladd Matteson of Lexington; and brother Thomas Ernest Ladd of Eden. KERNERSVILLE -- Cameron Michael Pardue entered this world early to insurmountable odds. We watched our little Champ conquer several medical obstacles for 42 days until the Lord called him home, Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Brenner Children' s Hospital. He was born April 17, 2008, in Forsyth County. Surviving are his parents, Michael and Kimberly Pardue of Kernersville, his sister, Madilyn Pardue of the home; paternal grandparents Eugene and Gerri Pardue of Kernersville; maternal grandparents Inez Webb of East Bend and Bob and Jean Webb of Rural Hall; paternal great-grandmother Mary M. Pardue of Kernersville; maternal great-grandparents Charlie and Edna Murphy of East Bend; aunt and uncle Crystal and Todd Harris of Kernersville and uncle Robby Webb of East Bend; and cousins Trinity and Tyler Harris of Kernersville. A funeral was conducted Monday, June 2, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. S. Neill Shaw and the Rev. Patrick Snow officiating. Burial followed in Mount Gur Cemetery. KERNERSVILLE -- Ellen Maxine Gravett Pendry, 75, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2008. KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Virgil Odell Walker, 82, of Kernersville passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, at Britthaven of Kernersville. He was born Aug. 6, 1925, to Rober Wesley and Clara Mabel Walker. Mr. Walker was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he retired in 1986 as the building superintendent. He loved music and played the mandolin and guitar in several bluegrass bands as a younger man. After retirement, he moved to his home on High Rock Lake. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Hazel Watkins Walker; and a sister, Jessie Irene Westmoreland. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Walker Cesario and husband Douglas of Kernersville and Donna Walker Crook of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Geoffrey Schimmeck, Donna Finnegan, Lee Crook, DeAnne Schimmeck and Neil Crook; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are four brothers, Edward, Gerald, Emmett and Glenn Walker; a sister, Catherine Westmoreland; and a special friend, Patricia Tucker. A funeral was conducted Sunday, June 1, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
