Florida cornerback commits to Wake Forest

Rishard Anderson is already big for a high-school cornerback.

If bigger is better, as most college coaches would agree, then the best is yet to come.

"He's between 6-0 and 6-1 and he's 185 to 190 (pounds)," Coach Byron Walker of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla., said. "And he carries that weight really well.

"We feel like he'll probably end up playing around 205 as he gets older."

Walker confirmed yesterday that Anderson has committed to play at Wake Forest, choosing the Deacons over Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and others. Anderson played cornerback, running back and wide receiver as a junior last season for an American Heritage team that finished 11-1,
"He's a safety-cornerback-type kid who is very physical and very athletic," Walker said. "He has better-than-average speed. He's about a 4.5 (second) 40 guy.

"Actually he's our speed guy at tailback. We'll throw him in there some. We'll throw him in at receiver some. He's a very versatile athlete.

"He's going to make Wake Forest a good football player."

Walker said that Anderson's decision came down to Wake Forest and Rutgers of the Big East.

"I think Rutgers was probably right in there with Wake, in terms of what his choices would have been," Walker said. "But he did have Syracuse, Vandy, Miami of Ohio, Central Michigan, Western Michigan (on his list). And Central Florida was really high on him, and South Florida was in here on him.

"He's had a lot of schools in here watching him in the spring and following him for a couple of years now."
