GREENSBORO
Lawyers for the jailed son of North Carolina State's basketball coach say Sidney Lowe II was scared and made a homemade knife to protect himself.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported today that attorneys for Lowe said in a statement their client had been threatened by other inmates.
Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes said a knife made from a plastic spoon and pieces of metal were found in Lowe's cell.
The younger Lowe was sentenced earlier this month to 15 months confinement on guilty pleas from a robbery in Greensboro.
Barnes said Lowe pleaded guilty to a disciplinary charge and that another infraction could lead to disciplinary measures.

You know what else is scary? That inmates can fashion knives so easily.
Here's a kid who has all the resources in the world yet chooses a life of crime. There's no excuse.

I see jail is not going to help this boy, he is already planning to hurt others! He wasn't scared, he was planning his next robbery! Maybe his father should have spent more time with his son, than trying to be in the spotlight all the time and helping the ball players, when his own son was crying for help!!!!!

Not a very good start following a measly sentence by a liberal judge. Prison is not supposed to be fun and games, so he should have thought about this before he committed all those felonies. Weren't his victims scared? This is poetic justice working.

It is little wonder why the average law-abiding citizen has very little respect for the court systems, for the sleazy lawyers who account for many of the problems or by inept judges who use their own rule of thumb rather than the legal sentencing guidelines in place. This entire case is a legal sham!
