Interesting Salvadoran home cooking tucked in a not-so-interesting strip mall. Try the pupusas — stuffed corn tortillas. They’re to El Salvador what hot dogs are to the United States.

A landmark. A mix of classic French — escargots, steak au poivre — and Winston-Salem. Moravian chicken pie with sage gravy is even an option at Sunday brunch. The nicest place around to eat outside if the weather is good.

If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, this is heaven. If you’re not, but you favor Asian soups, noodles, curries and stir fry, this cozy, completely meat-free restaurant is worth trying. Go for the Hula Pot, a spicy curry dish studded with tofu, vegetables or faux duck;
