Wake Forest and Coach Jim Grobe have thrived the last few years while recruiting in Florida.
And the Deacons landed yet another prospect from the state when quarterback Derald Jones committed earlier this week.
The Deacons also got a commitment from a player closer to home, Quan Rucker of West Iredell High School.
Jones and Rucker are both rising seniors and will be in the Wake Forest recruiting class of 2009. They can sign binding national letters of intent in February.
Jones completed 138 of 241 passes for 1,991 yards and 18 touchdowns last season as a junior at First Coast High School and was intercepted just five times.
Jones is 5-10 and 152 pounds and has a 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash.
Rucker, who helped West Iredell to a 9-4 record last season, had 52 catches for 642 yards in a playing in a spread offense similar to the offense that Wake Forest runs.
Coach Mark Weycker of West Iredell said that Rucker, who is 6-0 and 180 pounds, will fit perfectly for the Deacons as an inside receiver. Rucker has been timed at 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
According to the Statesville Record & Landmark, Rucker also had scholarship offers from Illinois, Clemson, N.C. State and Virginia.
Rucker has played wide receiver for most of his high school career but will switch to quarterback for his senior season. He also will continue to play defensive back.
"I've always wanted to go to Wake Forest since I was real little," Rucker told the Record & Landmark. "When you know where you want to go, and you have the opportunity to go there, then you go ahead and take it."
