NFL Notebook: Brennan, Hawaii QB, signs with 'Skins

■ The Washington Redskins yesterday agreed to terms with Colt Brennan, a sixth-round draft pick from Hawaii.
Brennan, a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, will be competing for the No. 3 quarterback's job behind Jason Cambpell and Todd Collins when the Redskins open training camp on Sunday.
Brennan threw for 4,343 yards and 38 touchdowns with 17 interceptions last season to lead Hawaii to a 12-1 record and a spot in the Sugar Bowl.
■ The Detroit Lions signed third-round draft selection Cliff Avril to a three-year contract yesterday.
Terms of the contract were not released.
Avril, who is 6-4 and 252 pounds, was the 92nd overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played defensive end his last two seasons at Purdue, mostly at left end. Earlier in his career he played strong-side linebacker.
■ Rookie linebacker Thomas Williams signed a four-year contract worth nearly $2 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars yesterday.
Williams, a fifth-round draft pick from Southern California, got a $174,500 signing bonus to go along with the $1.7 million contract.
■ Prosecutors dropped an assault charge against former Cincinnati Bengal Chris Henry yesterday, clearing the way for him to apply for reinstatement by the NFL.
Attorney Perry Ancona said that Henry, a former wide receiver, planned to apply immediately.
"All we could say is this would be reviewed at the appropriate time, and all factors would be considered," said Greg Aiello, an NFL spokesman.
Henry, 25, was accused of punching an 18-year-old University of Cincinnati student in March and of breaking his car window with a beer bottle. An earlier trial ended when a jury could not reach a verdict on the assault charge, and the judge dismissed a misdemeanor charge of criminal damaging. Prosecutors dropped the assault charge yesterday after a Hamilton County Municipal Court judge ruled against them on several motions.
The Bengals cut Henry after his April arrest, his fifth since joining the team in 2005. He has not been signed by any other team.
