Burlington shooting guard commits to Wake Forest

J.T. Terrell, a highly rated shooting guard from Burlington Cummings, has committed to play basketball at Wake Forest.
Terrell, a rising junior, received a scholarship offer from the late Skip Prosser last summer, about a week before Prosser's death, said Coach George Robinson of Cummings.
"Coach Prosser called me, and he had just gotten finished watching J.T. play," Robinson said. "He let me know he had a scholarship at Wake. And then two days after that, he passed away."
Robinson said that Terrell — who also had offers from Virginia, Virginia Tech, UNC Charlotte, Oklahoma and Miami — was contacted by assistant Dino Gaudio soon after Prosser's death.
"He and his staff assured J.T. he still had a scholarship there. They have been to our games, and they went to a weight-lifting class with him. They put a lot of time and energy into it, and it paid off."
Terrell, who is 6-3 and 170 pounds, averaged more than 25 points and five rebounds a game last season and was named the player of the year in the Mid-State 2-A. He wears a size 15 shoe and has a long wingspan, Robinson said.
"J.T. has a real knack for scoring," Robinson said. "He can flat-out shoot it, but that's not all he does. He has a real good intermediate game, and we are in the gym now getting him to make some moves off the dribble and attack the basket a little more often.
"He has an innate ability to make a shot when they need it most, and he has a real good knack on how to play the game. He is a dynamic athlete, but is heady and is a pretty smart player, too."
Robinson said that Terrell probably would have picked Wake Forest earlier, but that his mother wanted to make sure he didn't make any rash decisions.
"He has a real good relationship with the coaching staff," Robinson said. "He has been there and met with the players, and they like each other. His mom likes the situation, so she can get up and watch a lot of games."
