A city bus hit a utility pole Monday night after colliding with a van on First Street near its intersection with Marshall Street in Winston-Salem, authorities said. The wreck knocked out power to more than 1,200 Duke Energy customers.
The wreck occurred shortly after 7:30 when a van carrying five people and the bus carrying six people collided, said Lt. Billy Riggs of the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Several people suffered minor injuries, such as bloody noses and sore necks.
Officers however, weren't aware of anyone having to be transported to area hospitals, Sgt. Steve Tollie said.
The collision's cause was still under investigation with no further details available, he also said.
Police expected Marshall Street to be closed most last night as crews repaired the damaged power pole and lines.
Electricity had been restored to all but about 175 homes and businesses in Forsyth County as of 11 p.m., according to Duke Energy Corporation's website.
