Dr. Gopal Badlani, a professor of urology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been elected president of the Endourology Society. It is the largest specialty society in the field of urology. Badlani's role will be to serve as managing editor of the society's journal, to ensure that society training courses reflect changing technology, to oversee six sub-societies and to organize an observance of the society's 25th anniversary. Badlani also hopes to initiate a research program with international participation. He was a founding member of the society and served as its treasurer for 23 years.

Badlani, the vice chairman for clinical affairs of the Department of Urology, is a world expert in the field of urinary incontinence.

Dr. Dean Assimos, a professor of urology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been elected to the board of directors of the Endourology Society. The society works to facilitate scientific dialogue among endourologists worldwide. Assimos is the vice chairman for academic affairs in the Department of Urology. He will join the board in 2009.

■ Members of the Financial Litigation Unit in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina have received a 2008 Executive Office for United States Attorneys Director's Award from the Department of Justice. The members included S. Katherine Burnette, an assistant U.S. attorney. She is a native of Winston-Salem and a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law. The award was presented for outstanding performance in the category of Superior Performance by an Administrative Team.

The Center for Reproductive Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.

The accreditation was awarded based on the results of a recent on-site inspection performed by the college that examines the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the previous two years.

Wendy Clodfelter and Vickie Davis, agents for Breeden Insurance Services Inc. of Lexington, have successfully completed the Certified Insurance Service Representatives program.

Clodfelter lives in Welcome with her husband and son.

Davis lives in Kernersville and is married with one daughter.

Cindy Shumate, an agent for Breeden Insurance Services, has successfully completed the Certified Insurance Counselor program.

Shumate lives in Thomasville and is married with two daughters.

■ Chris Duke is the new franchise owner of the Navis Pack & Ship at 7341-C W. Friendly Ave. in Greensboro. Navis is a shipping company for packaging and shipping difficult-to-ship items. It specializes in shipping large, fragile and awkward items from single shipments to entire warehouses. Items are protected with custom-made packaging.

Linda Pierce Ilsley of Clemmons has established LPI Events LLC. The company, which has offices in Clemmons and in Raleigh, provides full service destination management services including team-building activities, tours, ground transportation, themed events, event branding and entertainment.

Ilsley is a certified meeting planner with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

G. William Joyner III has joined Kilpatrick Stockton's Winston-Salem office as a partner. He will be a member of the firm's Corporate Department.

Joyner was formerly a partner at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice and has a practice that includes general business and corporate law, private equity fund formation, venture capital and mezzanine financings, mergers and acquisitions and securities regulation.

Joyner also is the president of the board of directors of the Mental Health Association in Forsyth County.

Joel L. Newsome Jr. of Winston-Salem has been named a named to the board of trustees of Mars Hill College. Newsome is a member of First Baptist Church.

Dr. Bruce K. Rubin, a professor and vice chairman for research in the Department of Pediatrics and a professor of biomedical engineering at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, has been selected as the recipient of the 2008 Forrest M. Bird Lifetime Scientific Achievement Award.

It is a research award given by the trustees of the American Respiratory Care Foundation and the American Association of Respiratory Care. The award acknowledges outstanding individual scientific contributions in the area of respiratory care of cardiopulmonary disorders.

Rubin directs a large research group studying aerosol therapy for lung diseases, airway inflammation, and excessive mucus that contributes to lung disease. At WFUBMC he runs the only specialized mucus-clearance clinic, for both adults and children, in the United States.

■ Karen Siburt has opened A Place For Everything at 301 Foxcroft Drive in Winston-Salem. The company offers complete re-organization packages for homes. Siburt evaluates homes and offers a plan and services to de-clutter them as well as other services.

B. Tyler Stephenson, a Farm Bureau Insurance agent from Davidson County, received a plaque from Farm Bureau for being Top Three Agents Statewide in Auto Production during the N.C. Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting held Dec. 7-9 in Greensboro.

Jane West, the marketing manager for Business Services at North State Communications, was named in the Triad's Women Extraordinaire, an honor sponsored by Business Leader Media. West has worked with North State Communications for more than 20 years.

West is a magna cum laude graduate of Salem College. She has a degree in economics/management.

WilsonMcGuire Creative of Winston-Salem will continue its role as the advertising agency of record for Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst.

WilsonMcGuire has represented Pinehurst Resort since 2003 working with the resort in multiple capacities. The advertising agency directs the resort's marketing plan including media purchases, creates all advertising, videos, brochures and direct-mail pieces.

■ Two companies have joined the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, a Greensboro business incubator.

Triad One Stop Insurers, an independent seller of home, life, auto and health insurance. The agency is owned by Regina Gainey.

Big Machines Inc. provides web-based software to leading industrial, medical, and hi-tech companies. Steve Krasicky is in charge of the office at the Nussbaum Center.

■ Archimeleon PLLC, an architectural firm, has opened at 1922 Caudle Drive, Suite B in Mount Airy. The firm provides commercial and residential design, focusing on design/build projects with a special interest in environmentally friendly design. The company is headed by Christopher Price, a registered and certified architect by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

The School of Business and Economics at Winston-Salem State University has registered its finance degree with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc.

Courses that are registered by the CFP board, help students prepare for the certification exam. CFP board certification is the most widely recognized professional certification in the field of personal financial planning.
