Greetings Smittyheads,
Well, we are moving into the last few weeks of 2008. I'm wondering where this year went so fast. With the end of the year we have a number of holiday events going on and some new info happening in the community.
As you read this edition, you might want to be aware that the Baseball Downtown organization will be unveiling the new team name and mascot on Thursday, December 4 th . Keep an eye out in your local print and television media as this news breaks in the coming days.
NOMA, a new bar and restaurant downtown just opened their doors this week for business at Fourth and Marshall Street. They have "raised the bar" for a bar/restaurant not only in downtown Winston-Salem, but around the city. Very nice. Very impressive. For more information: Telephone 703-5112. E-mail noma_ws@yahoo.com
New Year's Eve is right around the corner. On the SmittysNotes.com web site and the next edition, stay tuned for events being planned around the Triad.
Now to the business at hand...
Just announced is a new mixed-use development in the heart of downtown. MINIM! will be a modern high rise in the center Winston-Salem at Fourth and Cherry Street. Project architect Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce has designed the building to be LEED Certified Gold . MINIM will uniquely be the first "green" / sustainable mixed use office, retail and residential opportunity downtown. The 12,500 square foot former Legal Aid building will be restored. Two adjacent buildings will be razed and a new 48,000 square foot building with 11 floors will be built on the property.
There will be 17 residential condos priced at $151,900 to $532,500. Half will be less than $250,000, with square footage ranging between 550 to 1,880. Attractive LEED features will include high ceilings with recessed lighting, polished concrete floors, Energy Star appliances, large windows, recycling storage, water-saving toilets, and high-efficiency heating, cooling and lighting systems.
The developer, Howell Dunlap with Dwell Development Group LLC., considers with the cost of new construction and MINIM's prime location; the cost per square foot value is strong. This will be a unique opportunity to be an original member of this sustainable urban community. In the coming weeks you will see some changes to Smitty's Notes e-newsletter and SmittysNotes.com. Not going to tell to much. I can say the web site will be updated with new content and take advantage of the new social media and networking tools to better connect the Smitty's Notes e-community.
One thing I will share is the launch of the Smitty's Notes E-Community of Winston-Salem page on Facebook.com. Like many communities around the country, Facebook has moved out of its original base of the under 21 crowd and has seen phenomenal growth in the 30-50 year old age group. It invaded the Winston-Salem community this past spring by leaps and bounds. I've been watch how people have using the site and don't think it's a passing fade. It has slowly integrated into my people's lives, businesses and community organizations.
So, in joining the Smitty's Notes group, you can get connected with other subscribers in the community and also from time to time get some breaking news first on the Facebook page. If you are a Facebook user and want to join the group, just click here .
Stay tuned for other developments related to the Smitty's Notes brand in the upcoming weeks.
