Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center took "interim" off the titles of two key executives today.
The medical center named Dr. William Applegate as president of Wake Forest University Health Sciences and Donny Lambeth as president of N.C. Baptist Hospital.
The announcements were made by Dr. John McConnell, the recently hired chief executive of the medical center. McConnell also named Douglas Edgeton as executive vice president for the medical center's administration. All of the appointments were effective yesterday.
Applegate and Lambeth have served as interim presidents of their respective organizations since the retirement of Dr. Richard Dean as president of Health Sciences and Len Preslar Jr. as president of Baptist Hospital in June 2007.
The medical center said that Applegate will continue to serve as dean of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, a position he has held since 2002.
For now, Lambeth also will continue to serve as chief operating officer of Baptist Hospital, a position he has held since 1999. But McConnell said that the medical center will conduct a national search to name a successor to Lambeth as chief operating officer for the hospital , separating that function from the president's job.
