Rep. Mel Watt, D-12th District, announced today how he would distribute tickets for the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama.
Watt's office has 196 tickets to give out, but received requests from more than 5,000 people for a total of more than 15,000 tickets.
The office has allocated 70 tickets to elected officials and community, organizational and religious leaders in the 12th District. The remaining 126 tickets were divided among the various counties that make up the 12th District based on populations. Forsyth County received 26 tickets, and Davidson got 15 tickets. The office then conducted a lottery drawing and restricted each person to two tickets.
Staff members are contacting people who were selected to see if they are still planning to go. Tickets are not required to attend the inauguration, but tickets are required for a reserved viewing area.
