North Carolina 3, Illinois-Chicago 2 (OT): North Carolina became the third ACC school to make the quarterfinals with a win against Illinois-Chicago last night in Cary.
The game was moved from Fetzer Field on UNC's campus to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary because of rainy conditions.
In the 86th minute Michael Callahan scored to tie the game at 2 and eight minutes later Garry Lewis' goal in sudden-death overtime gave the Tar Heels the victory. Brian Shiver got the assist on the game-winning goal.
The 13th-seeded Tar Heels (13-7-1) will play at home against Northwestern (15-4-3) this weekend.
UCLA women 6, Duke 1: Second-ranked UCLA raced past Duke in a women's quarterfinal in Los Angeles on Saturday night and advance to a semifinal meeting with North Carolina in Cary.
UCLA (22-0-2) was on the attack from the start, taking two shots in the first four minutes. The Bruins went up 1-0 at the 4:27 when McCall Zerboni one-touched a shot into the right corner after a corner kick. Duke pulled even at 14:17 when KayAnne Gummersall scored her 15th goal of the season.
UCLA responded with two goals before halftime to take the lead for good. Lauren Cheney headed in a goal at 17:50 to break the tie, then Caitlyn Mac Kechnie scored at 43:51 to make it 3-1. UCLA outshot Duke 16-3 in the first half.
In the second half, Kristina Larsen scored twice, and Dana Wall once as UCLA pulled away.
