■ Alan Koontz, the founder and a co-owner of Carolina Pondscapes in Thomasville, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Pond Professionals, based in Georgia. Carolina Pondscapes is a water-feature installation company.

■ W. Taylor Campbell III of Winston-Salem has qualified for the "Court of the Table" of the Million Dollar Round Table -- the Premier Association of Financial Professionals. Achieving Court of the Table status puts Campbell among the top professionals in the life-insurance and financial-services industry. The status recognizes Campbell for demonstrating exceptional professional knowledge, client service and ethical conduct.

■ Mandy Hines of Advance, an independent sales director with the Pampered Chef, received the Top Performance in Personal Sales and Balanced Business award at the company's national conference in Chicago in July. The Pampered Chef, a direct seller of kitchen tools, is part of Berkshire Hathaway.

■ Herbert Krabel, the owner of Guerrilla Communication, a marketing company, has moved his business to Winston-Salem from Chattanooga, Tenn. The company specializes in all kinds of guerrilla marketing campaigns and consultation. Krabel does business primarily over the Internet at www.guerillacomm.com.

■ Lynn Felder, the director of the Arts of Yoga, and Judi Maloy, the director of the Yoga Gallery, plan to merge their Winston-Salem yoga studios on Monday. The combined businesses will operate at 633 N. Trade St. in the heart of the Downtown Arts District under the name Yoga Gallery, featuring a new downstairs studio, a "yoga wall" and the Let It Be Yoga boutique owned by Amy McGinnis. The Yoga Gallery will offer classes seven days a week, ranging from meditation and therapeutic yoga to vigorous flow. Felder is also an assistant team leader for Lifestyles at the Winston-Salem Journal.

■ Dr. Donald V. Heck, the director of interventional neuroradiology at the Forsyth Stroke and Neurovascular Center and a physician with Forsyth Radiological Associates at Forsyth Medical Center, has been elected to the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery Executive Committee. He will serve a one-year term.

■ Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Richard C. Blackburn of Jefferson to the N.C. Code Officials Qualification Board. The board trains, tests and certifies local code officials. Blackburn is the chairman of the Ashe County Board of County Commissioners and a retired school administrator in Ashe County.

■ Adolfo "Fuzz" Fernandez and his team at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's Bariatric Surgery Program have been awarded a 3-year accreditation as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The accreditation by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is one of the field's highest levels of recognition. The Bariatric Surgery Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center provides Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and gastric banding procedures to treat obesity.

■ Warren E. Kasper has been elected to the board of directors of the N.C. Association of Municipal Attorneys. He has been in private practice in Clemmons for 30 years and has served as the attorney for the Village of Clemmons since 1993.

■ Dr. Carlos M. Ferrario, the director of the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been invited to be the chairman of an international committee created to reduce cardiovascular risk and disease. Ferrario, a professor of surgical sciences, physiology and pharmacology, is the Dewitt Cordell Professor of Surgical Research.

■ Funigan's has opened at 152 Stratford Commons Court in Winston-Salem. The center is owned by Donnie Mason and Chris Leab of Clemmons. Indoor entertainment offerings include mini-bowling lanes, a rock-climbing wall, a well-lighted arcade area and a giant soft playground. The center also houses FireSide Grille, with items from pizza to grilled chicken. Party rooms are available for birthday parties and other activities.

Steve Shell of Lexington has been elected vice president on the board of directors of the N.C. Bail Agents Association. He has worked in the bonding business for more than 29 years and is the president of ‘A' R Bail Bonding Co. He is a licensed private investigator and is licensed by the N.C. Department of Insurance as a professional bail bondsman and as a surety bail bondsman.

■ The N.C. Pest Management Association has awarded Lois Heald of Winston-Salem with its 2008 Technician of the Year award for her outstanding work as one of the state's top technicians for pest management. Heald works as a senior technician and licensee for Ray Pest Control Co. Inc. in Winston-Salem. Also, Chris Morefield of Bruce Terminix Co. in Boone received a Technician of the Year award for the wood-destroying insect phase. Winners of the Technician of the Year award are given a $500 savings bond and plaque announcing the award.

■ Scott Self has been elected to Truliant Federal Credit Union's volunteer board of directors. He has been a credit-union member and supporter for more than 20 years and has served as an associate director since 2002 on the Truliant board and was recently appointed as a director for the 2008 year. He is a senior analyst for Triad Guaranty Insurance.

■ These agencies in the Triad are among 31 that received grants of $1,000 each from Truliant Federal Credit Union in Winston-Salem: Experiment In Self-Reliance Inc., Junior Achievement of the Central Carolinas Inc., Communities In Schools of Forsyth County Inc. and The Shepherd's Center of Kernersville Inc. in Forsyth County; and Reading Connections Inc., Sanctuary House Inc., Guilford Education Alliance Inc., Sprit, Body & Soul Inc., West End Ministries Inc. and Nia Community Action Center Inc. in Guilford County.

■ Mack W. Phipps, a certified public accountant financial-forensics expert with Mack W. Phipps in Winston-Salem, has been awarded the Certified in Financial Forensics Credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The credential is granted to qualified certified public accountants with considerable professional experience in financial forensics.

■ The Jan Secor School of Real Estate in Greensboro has opened a location at 1510 Martin St., Suite 205, off Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. The instructor is Steve Lawson. The school offers a 75-hour prelicensing broker course, a N.C. Real Estate Exam review course, three post-licensing broker courses, and continuing education. The school's Web site is www.jssore.com.
