Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School students' SAT scores dropped four points last school year from 2006-07, the state said today.
Forsyth students scored an average of 1,497 on the critical-reading, math and writing sections of the SAT last year, down from the 2006-07 average of 1,501.
The local average SAT score ranked above the state average for the fourth consecutive year, school system officials said.
The state average last year was 1 , 489 and the national average was 1,511.
The highest possible score is 2,400.
"We have never placed a great emphasis on the importance of SAT scores as a district performance measure, and so we see both increases and decreases in the scores as part of the differences in individual test-takers from year to year," Superintendent Don Martin said.
