CHARLOTTE
A second person has pleaded guilty in Charlotte to two counts of second-degree murder in the 1993 deaths of two teens.
Robert Chevelle Friday pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to life in prison, avoiding a possible death sentence.
Another defendant, Antwan Sanders, was convicted earlier this week and sentenced to three consecutive life prison terms, including one for sexual assault.
A third co-defendant, Myron Terrell Burris, pleaded guilty earlier to two counts of second-degree murder and is awaiting sentencing.
Prosecutors had planned to request the death sentence in Friday's case.
The deaths of Raylynn Chelten, 15, and Tasha Lopes, 17, were investigated by the police department's new cold-case unit when it was created in 2003.
