Table 16 was one of the few real Italian restaurants locally, the un-Americanized kind short on red sauce. Since I reviewed it, a new menu's come out, very little of it Italian. I have to try it.

This is a true neighborhood bar, where the bartenders will offer water and the phone when your friend's car breaks down. The food, well, it's standard burgers, sandwiches and pizza, but there's lots and lots of beer on tap.

Barbecue tastes better cooked over wood, and so does pizza. Here, 10-inch pies come in unusual and tasty-sounding flavors, such as spicy shrimp, wild mushroom and "Rustica."

The usual faijitas, but also more-authentic Mexican fare off the regular menu, such as chicken and enchildas in deep, dark-red mole; tortilla soup, chunky guacamole "regional." Ask to see the list of current specials, which change a few times a year.
