Pageant, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the Miss Gay America Pageant, will be screened at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the 13th Annual N.C. Gay & Lesbian Film Festival in Durham. The festival runs Aug. 14-17 and is presented by the Carolina Theatre.
Pageant directors Ron Davis and Stewart Halpern follow five talented and passionate female impersonators who go to extraordinary lengths to be crowned the 34th Miss Gay America. This contest is all about illusion, so hormones and surgical body enhancements are forbidden.
Pageant will be screened at Fletcher Hall at the Carolina Theatre, 309 W. Morgan St., Durham.
Several stars from the documentary will be in attendance.

Martini Night is a time for the gay and lesbian community and its supporters at Speakeasy Jazz, 410 W. Fourth St.
Martini Night is held from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month. Participants can enjoy music, appetizers and a chance to socialize.

A local bowling alley is starting Let's Go Bowling Together, a night of bowling for the LGBT community on the first and third Thursday of every month. The gathering will run from 7 to 9 at AMF Winston-Salem Lanes, 811 Jonestown Road.
