ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- BB&T Corp. said this week that it will close 15 branches in the Tampa Bay market related to last year's purchase of Colonial Bank, The St. Petersburg Times reported.
The bank declined to identify the branches to be closed. Typical of bank integration, most of the branches being closed are within a mile of another BB&T branch.
Once the banks are closed, BB&T will have 48 branches in the market. The bank said that no job cuts are expected with the branch consolidation.
BB&T also said it would covert the remaining Colonial branches to BB&T's software system during Memorial Day weekend.
