Foreclosure filings in North Carolina were up 59 percent through the first half of 2010 to 20,097 compared with the first half of 2009, RealtyTrac Inc. said in a report today.
The number of filings was also up 10.3 percent compared with the second half of 2009.
The Winston-Salem metropolitan statistical area had 1,467 foreclosure filings in the first half of 2010, up 30.6 percent from the year-earlier period, but down 0.5 percent from second half of 2009. The MSA consists of Davie, Forsyth, Stokes and Yadkin counties.
Forsyth County accounted for 1,295 of the filings in the first half of 2010, 1,338 in the second half of 2009 and 1,032 in the first half of 2009.
Foreclosure filings in the Greensboro-High Point MSA were up 33.5 percent to 2,449 in the first half of 2010 compared with the first half of 2009. Filings in the Durham MSA were down 3.2 percent to 716. Filings in the Raleigh-Cary MSA were up 49.2 percent to 3,019. -- Richard Craver
