WENTWORTH -- Rockingham County officials have approved two tax-incentive packages for existing manufacturing businesses.
SANS Technical Fibers plans to expand its Stoneville plant, spending $2.8 million in machinery and equipment and adding 25 jobs.
The biggest incentive is $625,000 in state grants to the city for sewer and water improvements. The company also is eligible for $41,960 in county incentives and $39,320 from Stoneville -- both paid out over four years -- a $60,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund and a $30,000 grant from Duke Energy Corp..
Commonwealth Brands said it would spend $5.5 million on machinery and equipment and add 35 jobs by the end of 2010 for its tobacco-manufacturing plant in Reidsville. It is eligible for $83,207 in incentives from the city of Reidsville and $81,600 from the county -- both paid out over three years. The company has 224 employees at the plant.
The companies must maintain their job and investment pledges through the end of 2015 to keep the incentives.
