Two biotechnology companies with operations in Piedmont Triad Research Park said yesterday that they are collaborating on the marketing of a blood test targeting diabetes.
Carolina Liquid Chemistries Corp. will market the blood test of GlycoMark Inc. as one of a complete range of diabetes assays for a chemistry analyzer that can be used in a physician's office.
The blood test, branded as GlycoMark, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It is a nonfasting blood test that monitors intermediate glycemic control and can be administered monthly.
"There are 1.6 million people diagnosed with diabetes each year," said Phil Shugart, the president of Carolina Liquid. "Through this partnership, we will promote a system for helping physicians manage this epidemic."
