Foreclosures in N.C. rose 32 percent from year ago

North Carolina had 3,164 foreclosure filings in January, up 32 percent from January 2009, RealtyTrac Inc. said in a report timed for release today. However, the number of filings was down 11 percent from December 2009.

The Winston-Salem metropolitan statistical area had a 27 percent increase to 252 when compared with January 2009. The MSA consists of Davie, Forsyth, Stokes and Yadkin counties. Forsyth accounted for 232 of the filings a month ago, or 92 percent.

Foreclosure filings in the Greensboro-High Point MSA were up 36 percent to 443.
