Dr. Robert J. Evans III has joined the Department of Urology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He is a specialist in painful-bladder syndrome and a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Interstitial Cystitis Association.
Dr. Grace E. Terrell has been appointed to the board of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. She is the president and chief executive of Cornerstone Health Care.
Dr. John H. Myracle has joined Advance Pediatrics, a Cornerstone Health Care practice, in Advance. He is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has been the medical director of pediatrics at Winston-Salem Health Care for the past 25 years.
Dr. John J. Walker of High Point has been appointed as the first medical director of Cornerstone Health Care. Walker joined Cornerstone in 2002 after serving in private practice in Syracuse, N.Y., for 10 years. He will continue to practice half of the time with High Point Gastroenterology.
BB&T Corp. has promoted Chris Palmer to senior vice president. Palmer, who joined the bank in 2004, is an operations manager in BB&T's Merchant Services department.
Delaware State University has appointed Kemal M. Atkins for one year as its interim vice president of student affairs. Atkins was the vice provost for student affairs at East Carolina University.
n Southern Community Bank and Trust has hired Dave Becker as a commercial-credit officer in its Credit Administration group. He will work in the corporate office in Winston-Salem.
Pike Electric Corp. in Mount Airy said that retired Marine Gen. Peter Pace has joined the company's board of directors. As the 16th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pace served as the principal military adviser to the president, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council.
The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust recently chose Allen J. Smart to lead its Health Care Division. Smart has been a senior program officer of the Health Care Division since joining the trust in 2006.
Sam K. Hedrick has been elected to the board of directors of the American Network of Community Options and Resources. Hedrick is the president of RHA Howell Inc. in Raleigh, which operates Scotthurst Group Homes in Winston-Salem.
The Wake Forest University Schools of Business has hired Sylvia Green as the director of marketing. The school also named Courtney Cashin an assistant director of marketing. They will be responsible for marketing and branding the combined undergraduate and graduate Schools of Business.
David D. Daggett was a featured speaker at the annual N.C. Bar Leadership Institute during the N.C. Conference of Bar Presidents last month in Cary. He is a managing partner with Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law in Winston-Salem.
Stephen L. Mabe recently completed the requirements to become a Certified Aging In Place Specialist. He is the president of Stephen L. Mabe Building Inc. in Winston-Salem. The certification allows his company to remodel homes so that maturing adults can remain in their homes.

Go-Forth Pest Management in High Point said that two of its employees have earned statewide honors this year. Chase Hazelwood, the company's general manager, was elected to the board of the N.C. Pest Management Association as regional vice president, representing the Triad region for one year. Dennis Foster, Go-Forth's wood-destroying insect supervisor, was named the North Carolina Technician of the Year by the N.C. Pest Management Association. Inmar said that Rodney Bias, the company's vice president of regulatory compliance, was recently chosen to join the advisory group for Texas State Senate Bill 1757. The bill, passed in June 2009, requires the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to study existing and alternative methods for the disposition of unused pharmaceuticals. The group will also study how disposal methods affect the environment and public health.
"Principles of Rational Prescribing," a Web-based lesson developed by faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, was voted "Educational Product of the Year" recently among products developed by 40 academic geriatrics programs in the United States at the national meeting of grantees of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. "Principles of Rational Prescribing" is part of the SmartPrescribe curriculum, developed at the School of Medicine to combat the influence that increasing drug-company marketing can have on physician prescribing.
