Rural Hall to get jobs

TurboCare will hire 110 workers

TurboCare Inc. said yesterday that it will create 110 jobs and spend $30 million on capital investments at a plant on Westinghouse Road in Rural Hall.

The jobs are connected to the refurbishing of power-generation equipment.

The company, a subsidiary of Siemens Energy, already has 176 employees in Rural Hall.

The company is eligible for a $220,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which the governor can provide to expanding businesses or businesses opening operations in the state.

In May, Forsyth County commissioners approved a $100,000 incentive package for the company.

TurboCare operates out of the old Westinghouse Electric Corp. factory. The plant was formerly operated as Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp., another subsidiary of Siemens.

According to the TurboCare Web site, the plant's work includes the production and repair of turbine blades for gas and steam turbines.

Salaries for the 110 new jobs will vary, but the overall average wage will be $45,855 a year, not including benefits.

That is higher than the average annual wage in Forsyth County -- $39,936 without benefits.

"TurboCare is pleased with the decision to expand the existing facility in Rural Hall," Neil Sigmund, the chief executive of the company, said in a statement.

"The decision was based on the existing business relationship with Forsyth County and the strong state and local community support needed for the expansion," Sigmund said.

Gayle Anderson, the chief executive and president of the Greater Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce said that TurboCare's decision is welcome news, particularly for displaced workers "who will have an opportunity to use their skills at a company that pays excellent wages."

"When local companies expand, it reinforces our message that we offer a high-quality work force with a strong work ethic and an affordable cost of doing business," Anderson said.

Gov. Bev Perdue said in a statement that TurboCare's decision is another example of the attractiveness of North Carolina's educational system and training, and a business-friendly environment for international companies.
