■ Wake Forest University School of Medicine has changed the organizational structure of the Wake Forest University Translational Science Institute. Dr. Charles E. "Cash" McCall has been appointed the director, and a professor of translational science at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Stephen B. Kritchevsky will join McCall as the deputy director. McCall is still a professor of internal medicine/molecular medicine, but has relinquished his title of deputy associate dean for research. Kritchevsky will hold a shared primary appointment as professor of translational science and professor of internal medicine. He will continue in his roles as director of the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, which is supported by the National Institutes of Health.

■ Yadkin Valley Financial Corp. the holding company for Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Company, said that Jan H. Hollar has been named its chief financial officer. Hollar has more than 30 years of banking and accounting experience with community banks across North Carolina and South Carolina. Most recently, she was a senior vice president and chief financial officer of Blueharbor Bank in Mooresville.

Brian Gieseler has been named the chief financial officer for iGov based in McLean, Va. Gieseler will oversee the company's financial, accounting and operations programs including information technology services and purchasing. He has about 30 years of experience in the financial industry and has provided financial guidance and direction to companies and clients in multiple industries. He has worked for various companies, including as a partner with Tatum LLC.

■ Aladdin Travel & Meeting Planners announced said that Sarahbeth Derrick has joined the agency as a senior event and meeting planner. Derrick will be responsible for client meeting planning and logistics. An experienced logistics specialist, Derrick was the director of special events for Hayes & Associates in Washington.

Troy Brim has been appointed to the Truliant Federal Credit Union Board of Directors as an associate director for 2009-10. Brim is the president of Pella Window & Door Co.

■ The Salem Academy and College Board of Trustees has added these new members: Lisa Herron Bankoff of Atlanta, a community volunteer/fundraiser and former paralegal; Mary Martha Whitener Beecy of Charlotte, the president of the Salem College Alumnae Association; and L. Duane Davis of Winston-Salem, a senior vice president at Wachovia Wealth Management in Winston-Salem. Board officers are Gwynne Stephens Taylor, the chairwoman, who has been active in the field of historic preservation in North Carolina for more than 30 years as a professional and a volunteer; the Rev. Richard L. Sides, the vice chairman, who is the executive director of the Board of Christian Education of the Moravian Church, Southern Province; and Charles L. Blixt, the treasurer, who is a senior advisor to the law firm of Jones Day and a retired executive vice president and general counsel of Reynolds American Inc. and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.

■ The Salem Academy and College Board of Visitors has added these new members: Liz Denton Baird of Holly Springs, the director of school programs at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh; Rosemary Hege of Winston-Salem, a commissions specialist/training with EZ Data Inc. in Pasadena, Calif.; Martha Johnston Manning of Winston-Salem, who has been a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer for six years and is on the music committee at Bald Head Island Chapel; and D. Joeff Williams of Mocksville, a vice president for Actuarial Management Resources Inc. The board's officers are Susan L. Henderson, the chairwoman, who is a senior vice president and regional manager of Wachovia Wealth Management, a Wells Fargo company; and McDara P. Folan III, the vice chairman, who is a senior vice president, deputy general counsel and secretary of Reynolds American Inc.

■ Gov. Bev Perdue has appointed A. Joseph Kaiser of Advance to the N.C. Commission for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. Kaiser is a certified peer-support specialist for CenterPoint Human Services in Winston-Salem. Perdue also appointed Jorge Quintal of Winston-Salem to the N.C. State Building Commission. Quintal is the associate vice chancellor of facilities at UNC Greensboro. She appointed Chuck Hazelwood of High Point to the Structural Pest Control Committee. Hazelwood is the owner and operator of Go-Forth Pest Management Inc.
