Hanesbrands Inc. of Winston-Salem has been named one of 10 "Best Companies Supporting the Arts in America" this year by Business Committee of the Arts.

The committee is a division of Americans for the Arts, a service organization.

Hanesbrands and nine other companies, including Duke Energy of Charlotte, will receive BCA TEN awards during a black-tie gala Nov. 19 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Hanesbrands pledged $2 million last year to the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County for the construction of a 300-seat performing-arts theater in the former AC Delco building at Second and Spruce streets.

The theater will be named Hanesbrands Theatre and will be part of a Downtown Center for the Arts.
