The number of foreclosure filings in North Carolina soared by 50.8 percent in September, to 3,735, from September 2008, RealtyTrac Inc. said in a report released today.
However, the number of filings was down 13.5 percent from 4,317 in July.
The Winston-Salem metropolitan statistical area had 337 foreclosure filings in September, up 9 percent from 309 in September 2008, but down 2.7 percent from the 346 in August. The MSA consists of Davie, Forsyth, Stokes and Yadkin counties. Forsyth accounted for 305 of the filings in September 2009, 332 in August 2009 and 304 in September 2008.
Foreclosure filings in the Greensboro-High Point MSA were down 7.5 percent, to 494, in September from September 2008. Filings in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord MSA were up 62.3 percent to 1,411. Filings in the Durham MSA were down 55.4 percent to 82, and the filings in the Raleigh-Cary MSA were up 123.6 percent to 568.
