MOCKSVILLE
A former middle-school teacher in Davie County charged with having sex with a female student was arrested in Ohio yesterday, Sheriff Andy Stokes of Davie County said.
Doug Ebersbach, who was a teacher at William Ellis Middle School, was arrested about 2 a.m. in New Philadelphia, Ohio, by police in that city.
Ebersbach, 50, has been charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor and one count of breaking and entering.
He is in the New Philadelphia jail and no bond has been set. He will make his first appearance in court Monday in Ohio.
At that time, other charges will be filed against him, Stokes said.
"This investigation has actually just begun," he said. "We have several other persons of interest that we need to talk to concerning Mr. Ebersbach."
Stokes said that the Davie County Sheriff's Office has a list of about 20 young girls that was discovered during a search of Ebersbach's vehicle at his home.
If Ebersbach does not fight extradition, Stokes said, deputies will go to Ohio on Monday to begin extradition proceedings.
Ebersbach had been with the Davie schools since March 2006 and had taught at South Davie Middle School before being transferred to William Ellis Middle School this year.
School officials said that the transfer was related to budget and staff reductions.
Davie County authorities have said that he resigned last Sunday from William Ellis, and the criminal investigation started the next day.
Stokes said yesterday that the Davie County Schools have referred questions about the investigation to him.
Before joining the Davie school system, Ebersbach taught for the Wayne County school system in Eastern North Carolina.
