■ Bayada Nurses has promoted Dena Hinkle from clinical nursing manager to associate director of its new Davidson County office at 236 East Center St., Suite 1, in Lexington. Hinkle began working for Bayada in 1995. Donna Brooks was recently named the clinical nursing manager at the Bayada Nurses Winston-Salem skilled-home-care-services office.

■ BB&T Corp. has promoted Hai Falor to assistant vice president. Falor, who joined the bank in 2004, is a senior systems administrator in BB&T's Support Services department. He is based at 2825 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem.

P. Michael Kain has joined Anderson Bauman Tourtellot Vos based in Greensboro. Kain, a certified turnaround professional, has worked as an interim executive or revitalization consultant for companies in health care, manufacturing and distribution industries.

Millie Barbee has been named the executive director of the North Carolina High Country Host in Boone. The organization promotes tourism in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes counties. This is Barbee's second time in this job. She was also the Host's executive director from 1994-2000. Barbee retired from the Hickory CVB three years ago.

■ Sinclair & Co., an advertising, marketing communications and public-relations agency in Raleigh, has hired Sarah Frazier as an account manager. Frazier is a native of Winston-Salem. She previously worked in public relations and business development for MedThink Communications, Capstrat and Gibbs & Soell Inc.

■ Senn Dunn, an independent insurance agency based in Greensboro, has hired Melissa Nelson and Brooke Hasting as administrative associates in its Employee Benefits Division.

Jorge Quintal, the associate vice chancellor for facilities at UNC Greensboro, has been named the UNC system's representative to the State Building Commission. He will serve a three-year term.

Dr. Edward G. Hill Jr., the founder of Salem Neurological Center P.A., has been chosen by his peers to receive the Best Doctors in America award for 2009-2010. Hill founded Salem Neurological Center in 1993 and practices neurology in Winston-Salem. He has satellite offices in King and Kernersville.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing, which has a franchise in Eden, has been recognized in Franchise Times Top 200 list for 2009, ranking No. 184. This annual ranking lists the top 200 franchises based on worldwide sales. Zane Gauldin of Mr. Rooter Plumbing of the Piedmont franchise credited the company's customer service for its success.

■ Steuben Glass said that Windsor Jewelers at 526 S. Stratford Road in Winston-Salem will be the Steuben retailer in Winston-Salem. Windsor will carry a broad selection of Steuben Glass objects, handmade in Corning, N.Y., including tabletop pieces for the home, sculptural animals and holiday gifts.

Contract Office Furnishings Inc. celebrates its 32nd anniversary. The business is a black-owned, office-furniture dealer in Winston-Salem.

Davie County Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology. The ACR awards accreditation for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer–review evaluation of a practice.

■ The High Point Economic Development Corp.'s 2008 annual report recently won an award at the annual conference of the International Economic Development Council in Reno, Nev. The council's professional economic-development awards annually recognize excellence in the economic-development profession throughout the world.

Fleet Feet Sports Winston-Salem, locally owned and operated by Emily and Keith Davis, has been recognized by New Balance Inc. for excellence in its No Boundaries Beginner 5K Training Program. The training program provides participants with guidance and advice from experienced coaches, weekly group runs and educational clinics all in a fun and supportive environment.

■ These attorneys at Womble Carlyle's Winston-Salem office have been named to the 2009 Super Lawyers --Corporate Counsel Edition: W. Andrew Copenhaver, Antitrust Litigation; Allan R. Gitter, Civil Litigation Defense; Erna A.P. Womble, Civil Litigation Defense; and William F. Womble Jr., Personal Injury Defense: Products.

Bill Plemmons RV World has received the RV Business Top 50 Dealers Award for 2009. The award is given to dealerships that are unsurpassed in overall business operations, customer service and professionalism. Bill Plemmons RV World, which has been in business since 1951, has a location in Rural Hall, one in Raleigh and another in Salisbury.

Freedom Mobility Aids, based in Winston-Salem, has been appointed the exclusive dealer of AdaptaVan wheelchair accessible vans in North Carolina. AdaptaVans are customizable wheelchair accessible vehicles tailored to the needs of physically challenged and disabled individuals.

Family Services Inc. recently received recognition from the U.S. Green Building Council that its headquarters in Winston-Salem's Southeast Gateway has been Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-NC certified at the Silver Level, making it the first LEED-NC certified building in Forsyth County.

S&L Painting & Decorating has received the 2009 Best of Winston-Salem Award in the Commercial Painting category by the U.S. Commerce Association. The award program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country.

Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC was profiled with client Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated in the cover story of Counsel to Counsel magazine's September/October issue. The article profiled the firm's work with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated to develop a comprehensive employment, practice and liability law training program for the Charlotte bottler's managers.

■ The N.C. Commission on Workforce Development has recognized these people with awards for workforce excellence: Kathleen Grant of Greensboro, Governor's Award for Excellence in Workforce Development, Outstanding Adult Participant; Tayler Lewellyn of Greensboro, Governor's Award for Excellence in Workforce Development, Outstanding Youth Participant; and Teresa Mejia-Santos of North Wilkesboro, Governor's Award for Excellence in Workforce Development, Outstanding Older Youth Participant.

■ Wake Forest University School of Medicine recently honored these researchers with awards for excellence: Cristina M. Furdui, an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section on Molecular Medicine, "New Investigator in Basic Sciences Award" for her research that focuses on understanding how the human body reacts to disease, and finding ways to predict how individuals will respond to drugs and other therapies; Dr. Matthew S. Edwards, an associate professor in the Division of Surgical Sciences and the Department of Public Health Sciences, "New Investigator in Clinical Sciences Award" for his work in renovascular disease research; Sara R. Jones, an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, with a cross appointment in the Neuroscience Program, and the co-director of graduate studies for the department of physiology and pharmacology; "Mid-Career Investigator in Basic Sciences Award" for her research on drug abuse and addiction.

Carl D. Langefeld, an associate professor in the Department of Biostatistical Sciences, the section head of Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics, and the director of the Center of Public Health Genomics, shared the award for "Mid-Career Investigator in Basic Sciences" with Jones; Joseph G. Grzywacz, an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the associate director for research in the School of Medicine's Center for Worker Health, "Mid-Career Investigator in Clinical Sciences Award" for his research on work and family, and its implications for individual health and well-being; Dr. Thomas D. DuBose Jr., Tinsley R. Harrison Professor and Chairman of Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, a co-recipient of the "Established Investigator in Basic Sciences Award" for his work investigating acidosis and kidney tubule function.

Douglas Lyles, a professor and chairman of biochemistry, and the director of the Cell Growth and Survival Program of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared the award for "Established Investigator in Basic Sciences" with DuBose; Deborah A. Meyers, a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and a co-director of the Center for Human Genomics, the "Established Investigator in Clinical Sciences Award" for her work in the genetics of common respiratory diseases.
