State plan wants refund from Baptist

»  Comments | Post a Comment

N.C. Baptist Hospital has received a letter from the N.C. Attorney General's Office requesting that a $638,585 payment be made to the State Health Plan.

The plan said last week that Baptist overcharged the plan for outpatient medical services it provided from July 2003 to June 2008.

The plan released a preliminary report last week on an audit it began in March.

Baptist is the only Triad hospital, and one of six statewide, listed as having overcharged the plan.

Baptist officials denied any wrongdoing.

"We did not hide anything or try to take advantage of the State Health Plan in any way," said McLain Wallace, a vice president and general counsel for Baptist.

Wallace said that Baptist plans to contest the plan's findings.
