October foreclosures up from year ago, down from last month

The number of foreclosure filings in North Carolina increased by 7.3 percent in October to 3,447, compared with October 2008, RealtyTrac Inc. said in a report released today.

However, the number of filings was down 7.7 percent from the 3,735 in September.

The Winston-Salem metropolitan statistical area had 365 foreclosure filings in October, down 4.7 percent from 383 in the year-earlier period, but up from 337 filings in September. The MSA consists of Davie, Forsyth, Stokes and Yadkin counties.

Forsyth accounted for 346 of the filings in October 2009, 305 in September 2009 and 344 in October 2008.

Foreclosure filings in the Greensboro-High Point MSA were up 16.8 percent, to 569, in October from October 2008.

Filings in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord MSA were up 5.1 percent to 1,265.

Filings in the Raleigh-Cary MSA were up 34.9 percent to 537.
