A North Carolina yarn company is expanding and plans to add 135 jobs over the next three years.

According to news reports yesterday, Richmond Specialty Yarns in Richmond County will expand production of specialized yarn for the military, medical and furniture markets.

If the company creates jobs while maintaining existing ones, it is eligible for a $150,000 state grant.

The company's Ellerbe plant employs 140 people. The 135 new jobs will pay annual wages of $25,931, plus benefits.

FilSpec Inc., based in Canada, recently bought a controlling interest in the company.
