The Winston-Salem Journal has hired a veteran advertising and publishing executive as its new vice president of sales and marketing.
Jeffrey Green will begin on Nov. 9. He will be responsible for newspaper, magazine, direct mail and digital sales for the Journal and its affiliated publications.
Green most recently served as the president and chief executive of the IWANNA division for Fayetteville Publishing Co. in Asheville and Greenville, S.C. He replaces Mike Baskin, who resigned last month.
Green is no stranger to the Journal. He worked at the newspaper from January 1983 to July 1993 as the manager of the marketing-services, classified and retail divisions, and then as advertising director.
"I'm delighted to return to lead the department during our challenging transition to a multi-media platform," Green said. "I'm looking forward to reconnecting with the newspaper, its clients, the town and the community."
After leaving the Journal, Green worked at The Tampa Tribune, another Media General newspaper, from August 1993 to April 1999 as the advertising director and vice president of sales and marketing.
"The Journal welcomes Jeff as a highly regarded sales and marketing executive," said Mike Miller, the newspaper's president and publisher.
"The operation will benefit greatly from Jeff's talent and experience. He will bring a great deal of leadership expertise to our sales team. Even more, he is familiar with the community and many of the people living and working here."
