Marshall Morton, the president and chief executive of Media General Inc., did not receive a raise in salary in 2008, according to a regulatory filing yesterday.
Media General publishes the Winston-Salem Journal, Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Tampa Tribune and other newspapers, and owns 19 television stations.
The total compensation package for Morton was listed at $2.7 million in the company's summary compensation table, essentially unchanged from 2007 and down from nearly $3.3 million in 2006. The 2008 amount includes more than $1 million in unvested restricted stock awards from 2008 and prior years.
The 2008 compensation package for Morton consists of $925,000 in salary, restricted stock that the company valued at $1.9 million on the date that the award was granted, and $267,035 in all other compensation. He did not receive compensation from the company's non-equity incentive plan.
Media General said separately that it will close its Washington bureau at the end of the month, cutting six jobs.
