Site of proposed apartments near new ballpark for sale

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The site for a proposed $17 million apartment complex at Brookstown Avenue and Burke Street is for sale.

Developers Kerry Avant and Thad Lewallen of Winston-Salem and Mike Cooke of Greensboro said in September that they planned to build an upscale project on 1.8 acres once occupied by Graybar Electric Co. Inc. and Fritts Motor Co.

The apartment complex, tentatively called the Village of West End, was to be the first major development spurred by the downtown ballpark for the Winston-Salem Dash other than some businesses on Peters Creek Parkway.

But yesterday Avant said that financing for apartment complexes in the current economy has all but dried up. "We haven't ruled out doing it," he said, "but we're trying to play all the possibilities."
