■ Dr. R. Duncan Hite has been named the new chief of the Section on Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Immunologic Diseases at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is the director of medical intensive care at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
■ Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros P.A. said that Elizabeth P. Foley has joined the law firm as an associate in its Winston-Salem office. Foley focuses her practice on real-estate transactions financed through HUD-insured loans and the use of federal and state tax credits. Prior to joining the firm, she practiced law at Bryan Cave in Washington.
■ Randal S. "Randy" Baringer has joined Womble Carlyle. He is a product-liability litigation attorney with nearly 20 years of experience. He previously worked for National City Corp., where he was a vice president and senior attorney.
■ Parker Huitt has joined the First Tennessee Winston-Salem corporate-banking office as a portfolio manager and senior financial analyst for commercial real estate. He previously worked in a variety of banking, brokerage and development services roles.
■ WCWG-TV in Greensboro recently hired Deborah Kehoe as a local sales manager. She was with WZTV-TV, the Fox affiliate in Nashville, Tenn., where she had been the national sales manager since May 2003.
■ BB&T Corp. has named Jeff Ellison the president of its Mortgage Warehouse Lending Division. He oversees daily operations and nearly 60 employees based in Orlando, Fla. He most recently was a senior credit officer in BB&T's East Florida Region based in Orlando.
■ Scott Pryzwansky is the new manager of public affairs for Time Warner Cable Greensboro. Pryzwansky is responsible for community affairs, philanthropic initiatives, internal communications and media relations for Time Warner Cable's Triad operations.
■ Greensboro College has named Steven E. Gunkel an associate professor of sociology and the director of the college's Criminal Justice Program. Gunkel previously taught at Wake Forest University, Doane College, the University of Nebraska and Indiana University.
■ Wharton Gladden & Co. LLC in Greensboro has hired Timothy McPeak as a senior director. He previously worked for Babcock & Brown LP in San Franciscoand has 15 years of experience in finance and investment banking.
■ Leah Taylor has joined Strategic Employee Benefit Services in Greensboro as a wellness coordinator. She will develop wellness programs and organize health fairs for employers.
■ The U.S. Census Bureau recently appointed managers for its new 2010 Census office in Winston-Salem at 450 W. Hanes Mill Road, Suite 105. They are: Ken White, local census office manager; David McAdoo, assistant manager for field operations; Randy Hackaday, assistant manager for quality assurance; La'Teka McLemore, assistant manager for administration; Suzanne Coleman, assistant manager for recruiting; and Frank Pantano, assistant manager for technology.
White leads the Winston-Salem office after managing the Greensboro office during the Census Bureau's address-canvassing operation. McAdoo and Hackaday also worked for the Census Bureau during the address-canvassing operation. Coleman worked in early 2010 Census operations as a recruiter and crew leader. McLemore worked for Wachovia in operations and quality management for five years then entered the medical field, working as an office manager. Pantano worked as a technical adviser for the law firm Patterson and Sheridan.
■ Dr. Karla M. Pereira, a Spanish-language interpreter/translator at Forsyth Medical Center, has been honored with the International Medical Interpreter's Association Medical Interpreter of the Year Award. The award recognizes an outstanding interpreter on the basis of such qualities as interpreting skills, patient advocacy and commitment to professional development and leadership.
■ Leonard Ryden Burr has recognized two of its top producing agents for the January through October period. Ginger Baldwin has been selling real estate in Winston-Salem for 31 years. She was recognized for her commitment to the real-estate industry as a past president, Realtor of the Year and Top Producer in Sales. James Willamson has been selling real estate in Winston-Salem for 21 years. He was recognized for closing the most sales transactions.
■ The N.C. State Board of Certified Public Accountant Examiners has approved these applicants for licensure as certified public accountants in the state of North Carolina: Jennifer Ashley Barbee, Michelle Kay Gunther, John Gregory Hincker, Martha Lynch Newton, Lauren Rene Pope, Karen Crozier Russell and Megan Alicia Vogt of Greensboro; Scott Douglas Hansen, Kimberly Anne Hunter and Brooks Alexander Stewart of High Point; Donna Michelle Bembnister of Kernersville; April Jewel White of Mount Airy; Melissa Wright Prevette of Statesville; Jeffrey Grant Tolley of Stokesdale; and Galina D. ■ Hatch said that the TeachSmart Learning System, the only prekindergarten educational software accredited by SMART Technologies, has been elevated to Select Level status. Select Level is the highest level of accreditation granted by the SMART Software Accreditation Program.
■ The "100 Ways to Wellness" program has been honored with an Industry Innovator Award by the International Council on Active Aging. The program, which was developed as an initiative to encourage community residents to stay active physically and mentally, was developed by Kisco Senior Living communities in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
■ Larrie Dawkins was recently awarded the Certificate of Meritorious Service by the Medical Group Management Association. He is a chief compliance officer for Wake Forest University Health Services in Winston-Salem.
■ Rick Sells, the director of Respiratory Care Services at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been awarded Lifetime Membership by the N.C. Society for Respiratory Care. Through the years, only 11 respiratory-care practitioners in the state have received this honor.
■ Lynne J. DeVenny, a senior paralegal at Elliot Pishko Morgan P.A. in Winston-Salem, gave the opening speech and presented a breakout session on using social media for professional development at the Los Angeles Paralegal Association's 33rd Annual October Conference.
■ Dr. William E. Moody has opened as a private-practice chiropractic associate at The Dickson Chiropractic Clinic at 2909 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. He is a recent graduate of Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Mo.
■ The Wake Forest University Schools of Business graduate program has demonstrated significant leadership in integrating social and environmental issues into its MBA program, according to the Aspen Institute's 2009-10 Beyond Grey Pinstripes, a biennial survey and alternative ranking of business schools. The Schools of Business rank 43rd among the Global Top 100 Schools.
■ John and Kathy Cook recently opened Mr. Handyman of Winston-Salem at 4140 Clemmons Road, Suite 297 in Clemmons. Mr. Handyman is a network of independently owned and operated franchises with 300 locations nationwide that provide commercial and residential property maintenance and repair services.
■ Business Recycling Service at 175 Northpoint Ave., Suite 205, in High Point has expanded its service to include recycling of plastic, aluminum, glass and paper for any size business or organization.
■ Senn Dunn Insurance has been recognized by The Central Insurance Companies as one of 72 agencies in the country to receive their Blue Streak designation, awarded for consistently maintaining high professional standards in the delivery of personal insurance-policy service. Paula Apple, an account manager, accepted this honor on behalf of Senn Dunn.
■ Wes Bartlett, an employee-benefits consultant for Senn Dunn Insurance, received the 2009 Volunteer of the Year award from Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina. The recognition was based on his dedication to teaching, recruiting volunteers, and his time commitment and enthusiastic support.
■ Local Government Federal Credit Union said that Lynn McKinnie has been appointed to its West Piedmont Advisory Council, which includes Davidson, Forsyth and Stokes counties. McKinnie is the town clerk for the Town of Walkertown and the Town of Wallburg.
■ The city of Winston-Salem recently received three national awards from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association. "Faces of the Homeless" and "This Place Matters" won 2009 Savvy first-place awards, respectively, for public-service announcements and best use of a promotional item. A recruiting brochure for the fire department won a 2009 Silver Circle second-place award. "Faces of the Homeless" is a 30-second PSA produced to raise public awareness and support for the Ten-Year Commission to End Chronic Homelessness. "This Place Matters," a photo-sharing campaign coordinated by the Historic Resources Commission to raise awareness of historic preservation, had a secondary goal of increasing the number of "fans" of the city's Facebook page.
■ The King Chamber of Commerce has recognized Joyce Triche, John Baker and the Hanging Rock District of the Boy Scouts. Triche has been honored as the 2009 Business Leader of the Year in recognition of her 40 years of offering dance instruction in the area. Miss Joyce's Dance Studio was the first dance studio in Stokes County. Baker was recognized as the 2009 Retired Community Leader. He was the owner and operator of Custom Cleaners Inc. for 34 years. The Hanging Rock District, Old Hickory Council of the Boy Scouts received the 2009 Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. With a number of troops in Stokes County, the Hanging Rock District of the Boy Scouts has more than 300 youth. It celebrates 80 years in King.
■ Catherine Browne has opened The Elkin Community Acupuncture clinic at 111 Church St. in downtown Elkin. She is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist and author. She has extensive training in Chinese medicine and a long history in natural medicine.
■ Rockwell Automation has recognized Electric Supply & Equipment Co. in Greensboro for its performance in a recent survey of several thousand customers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Electric Supply & Equipment ranked first in North America for customer satisfaction and received the second highest marks for customer loyalty among all of Rockwell's North American distributors.
■ The law firm of Constangy, Brooks & Smith LLP awarded its annual Human Resource Work-Life Balance Initiative Award to Advanced Electronic Services of Mount Airy. The program recognizes companies that actively initiate and create work environments conducive to work-life balance. Also, Advanced Electronic Services received $1,000 to donate to the nonprofit organization of its choice, Carla B. Farlow Foundation for Children of Surry County.
