The Piedmont Triad Partnership said that a fund-raising campaign aimed at promoting regionalism has received pledges worth at least $1.3 million a year for five years.

The partnership has identified four industry sectors to benefit from the money -- furnishings, logistics and distribution, nanotechnology, and regenerative medicine.

Kelly King, the chief executive of BB&T Corp., has served as the driving force behind the effort as the chairman of the Piedmont Triad Leadership Group.

More than 30 investors are contributing to the campaign, including $200,000 from BB&T and $125,000 from the Winston-Salem Alliance.
