■ David L. Holden, an associate at Holden Mickey & Mickey Inc. in Winston-Salem, has been recognized for the fourth time as a Rising Leader based on production in this region for MassMutual. In addition, Holden has qualified four times for the MassMutual Leader's Club, and is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table. ■ The American Advertising Federation's Triad affiliate recently presented 2009 ADDY Awards to these companies:
Woodbine in Winston-Salem won 18 awards, including the people's choice award for its pro-bono work for the Community School of the Arts in Charlotte. Woodbine's awards include two gold and five silver awards for longtime client Piedmont Federal Savings Bank, and four silver awards for Fafard, a Syngenta Group Co. The company also received gold awards for "Interactive Media -- Web site, B2B Flash" for the Woodbine Web site; and "Elements of Advertising -- Photography, Campaign" for Peds "Shoe Fetish."
Horn & Stronach Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations in Winston-Salem, received a Gold ADDY Award for its television campaign for Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Wildfire in Winston-Salem won six ADDY Awards, including three gold, two silver and a judge's choice. Wildfire received the gold awards for its work with Tristan restaurant, Restore and the Salem Baking Co. Wildfire's "Tristan Takes You There" television spot won both gold and judge's choice awards. It also received gold awards for its work completed for Salem Baking Co.'s Fall Trio, a specialty/gift offering within the Moravian Cookie family and design work done for Restore packaging.
Trone, in High Point, won 11 awards -- five gold, four silver and two judge's choice awards. The company received gold for the ORAL ATP web banner designed for The Greenies Co., distinction in the self-promotion category for its mom segmentation purse. Trone took two of the top judges' choice awards, as well as gold awards for both the ORAL ATP Web banner and the "Where Do You See Yourself?" poster.
■ Hardy Brothers Inc. of Siloam has been awarded the Truckload Carrier of 2008 honor by the Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. in Jonesville. Eddie Hardy is the president of Hardy Brothers.
■ Evans C. Ballard of Winston-Salem has received one of the first statewide certifications as a budget and evaluation officer. He is a budget and benchmarking analyst for the city of Salisbury and the past president of the N.C. Local Government Budget Association.
■ State Farm has recognized Darryl Bandy, a local State Farm agent, for receiving the Chairman's Circle Award. The honor recognizes agents who align their agencies with the long-term quality growth of all State Farm product lines. These agents are actively engaged in servicing policyholders, providing loss-control guidance and developing a quality staff to serve their customers.
■ DataChambers said that Chris Kelley, the company's chief operations officer, has joined the board of directors for a national consortium of records-management companies. Kelley will serve a three-year term on the board of the National Records Centers Inc.
■ Terry L. Holbrook recently retired as the clerk of Superior Court of Forsyth County, was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest civilian honor in the state. The award is granted by the governor to retiring individuals who have a proved record of service to their community and the state.
■ Pine Hall Brick, based in Winston-Salem, and This Old House, the PBS home-improvement series, were partners this winter with a project in New York involving the renovation of a 1904 brownstone in Brooklyn's historic Prospect Heights neighborhood. Pine Hall Brick provided its classic Pathway Red brick pavers, produced near Madison.
■ Simply Sassy Kids Spa in King was chosen to perform crazy hair and nail styling on the guests of Nickelodeon on March 28 at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Show Spa & Style Party 2009. Simply Sassy was part of a nationwide styling "DREAM TEAM" arranged by Spa-Go's, a luxury mobile-day spa and lifestyle company, based in Los Angeles. Erika Harris and Robin Williams are the owners and creative directors of Simply Sassy.
■ S&L Painting and Decorating Inc., based in Winston-Salem, has opened a coastal Carolina office at 1294 N.C. 172, Suite 1, in Holly Ridge. This office will be in charge of work in the coastal and eastern part of North Carolina. John Robertson is the office manager. Ralph Quinn is the project manager and David Hayes is the operation manager.
■ Three Piedmont Triad executives have been appointed and seven members re-appointed to the Business Advisory Board for the Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro. The new members are Rasmus Fenger, the president of Disaster One Inc., Greensboro; Charles Hauser, the manager of Physician Discoveries, Winston-Salem; and Sam Funchess, the director of the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, Greensboro. Re-appointed members are Brad Hayes, the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, LabCorp, Burlington; Eric Manuel, the site president and director of collections, Citibank N.A., McLeansville; Ched Neal, the president of Parkway Ford/Foothill Ford, Winston-Salem; Dean Priddy, the chief financial officer and vice president of administration of RF Micro Devices, Greensboro; Arthur Samet, the president of Samet Corp., Greensboro; Ramona Woods, the chief financial officer of Ashtaé Product, Inc., Greensboro; and Doug Young, the chief executive of LiveCargo Inc., Greensboro.
Jim Morgan, an attorney in High Point, has been appointed as the new chairman of the board. Morgan is a partner in the law firm of Morgan, Herring, Morgan, Green, Rosenblutt & Gill LLP.
■ Pam Versaggi, the relocation director for Leonard Ryden Burr Real Estate, and the company's partners, Brooke Burr, Greg White, Michael Ryden and Curtis Leonard, recently received two first-place awards for excellence at the annual conference of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World held in Scottsdale, Ariz. The awards were "Incoming Conversion" in the category for companies with 21-50 agents, which recognized their outstanding performance in converting incoming referrals sent to them from other affiliates worldwide; and the "Property Advertising" award. The company also received a second-place award, "Company Brand."
■ Knight Topline Services Inc. was presented with the state's "2008 Top Dealer" award from Virginia Air Distributors Inc. and York.
■ Steve Coles, a member in Nexsen Pruet's Greensboro office, has been named a co-chairman of the N.C. Bar Association Tort Issues Task Force. Coles, who works with the firm's Business Litigation group, concentrates his practice in several areas, including litigation, products liability, health care and insurance litigation.
■ Novant Medical Group now ranks as the fifth largest medical group in the nation. In a recent report conducted by independent research firm SK&A Healthcare Information Solutions, Novant Medical Group was listed as having the most physician offices of any medical group in the country with a total of 303 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Since the report was released, NMG has grown to 361 office locations and more than 1,000 physician partners.
■ Dr. L.N. Dorairajan, a urologist from India, has received a scholarship from the Indian-American Urological Association to spend two months studying robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's Department of Urology. Dorairajan is a professor of urology at Jawahar Lal Nehru Institute of Post-graduate Medicine and Research in Pondicherry in India.
■ Kimberly H. Stogner has been recognized as a 2009 recipient of the 2009 Citizen Lawyer Award from the N.C. Bar Association. She is a trust and estates attorney practicing in Womble Carlyle's Winston-Salem office.
■ Vulcan Materials Co.'s Stokesdale Quarry has received an Excellence in Community Relations Gold Award from the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association. The quarry is part of Vulcan's Mideast Division, which is based in Winston Salem. Corey Viers is the plant manager at Stokesdale Quarry.
■ Forsyth Technical Community College has won two national awards for marketing initiatives from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. The college's 2008 outdoor-billboard campaign won a gold medal and its 2008 recruitment marketing campaign took a silver medal.
