■ Mackenzie Cates has been named the manager of resource development for the YWCA of Winston-Salem Forsyth County. Cates will serve on a part-time basis, helping to coordinate and enhance the YWCA's fundraising and development capabilities, with emphases on grant writing, database management and special events.
■ Dr. A. William Blackstock Jr., a professor of radiation oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been named the chairman of radiation oncology. He replaces Dr. Edward G. Shaw, the chairman since 1995, who has stepped down to return to graduate school to pursue a master's degree in counseling.
■ Cynthia Dinkins has joined Southern Community Bank and Trust as a branch manager in the bank's Clemmons office. Daniel Choplin has joined Southern Community as a 1031 Exchange Specialist in the bank's Southern Community Wealth Management Department in its corporate office in Winston-Salem.
■ Chesapeake Microfilm Inc., a records-storage company in Rural Hall, has promoted Meredith Paige Futrell to vice president, in charge of all business operations. She had worked in marketing.
■ Scott Forrester has joined Voyss Solutions, a communications and information-technology solutions company based in Winston-Salem, as the director of Voice Over Internet Protocol. He will be responsible for the overall installation and services of Voice Over Internet Protocol product offerings. He had worked for Winstream Communications.
■ Dan River Real Estate has hired Hannah Shoemaker of Pilot Mountain as a broker. She works full time at a bank in Mount Airy.
■ Sam Leonard Beck has joined Wake Forest University's Calloway School of Business and Accountancy as the director of student professional development in the Ernst & Young Professional Development Center. Beck is the first person to lead the newly created center. Before taking the job, Beck was director of career development at High Point University for the past 14 years.
