■ Wake Forest University honored two alumni and two faculty members during Opening Convocation last month in Wait Chapel. Alumni Wendy Bartlett of Winston-Salem and Katherine O'Brien of Austin, Texas, received the Excellence in Teaching Award, which comes with $20,000. Bartlett teaches math at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem. O'Brien teaches fourth-grade bilingual classes at Becker Elementary School in Austin and is working toward a master's degree at the University of Texas at Austin. Paul M. Ribisl received the Donald O. Schoonmaker Faculty Award for Community Service in recognition of his 34 years of service to Wake Forest and the surrounding communities. Ribisl is the Charles E. Taylor Professor of Health and Exercise Science and the interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Jon Reinhardt Award for Distinguished Teaching went to James T. Powell. He is an associate professor of classical languages.
Also, the Wake Forest Debate Team, the winner of the 2008 National Debate Tournament, was recognized, as well as student members of the Judicial Council, the Honor and Ethics Council and the Board of Investigators and Advisors.
■ Karen Jacobsen, a home-mortgage consultant for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Winston-Salem, has received the company's Leaders Club Award. The award is given to the company's top 10 percent performers in nationwide company production. Jacobsen has worked in finance for more than 20 years and in the mortgage industry for more than 15 years.
■ Keen Innovations LLC based in Greensboro said that Tripp Harrington, the owner of Amazing Love Studios (A Family Portrait Studio by Tripp Harrington Photography) is the company's first authorized licensee of its Chronicle product group: SchoolKid Chronicles, Anniversary Chronicles and Legacy Chronicles. Harrington will serve the Clemmons and Winston-Salem area.
■ DAC Products, a manufacturer of store fixtures and point-of-sale displays in East Bend, was recently named 19th for outstanding sales-growth performance in the Annual WOOD 100 Report. The report, which profiles and ranks 100 fast-growing woodworking companies, was published in the September 2008 issue of Wood & Wood Products magazine.
■ Gilbarco Veeder-Root's FlexPay EPP was awarded a 2008 CSP Retailer Choice Best New Product award in recognition of the product's acceptance by convenience store retailers as a preferred payment solution. The award is sponsored by Convenience Store Petroleum Magazine.
■ The American Trucking Association has recognized Mack Trucks Inc. for the company's continuing support of the association's Share the Road highway safety initiative, including providing a MACK Pinnacle tractor used in the program. Mack is the founding sponsor of Share the Road and has provided funding for the effort since 2001.
■ Dr. John P. Pruitt
has been elected president of the N.C. Academy of Dentistry. The academy represents 900 general dentists and promotes the advancement of professional achievement through continuing education. His term will expire in February 2009.
■ Gov. Mike Easley has reappointed Murray C. "Tripp" Greason III of Winston-Salem, Bobby Kadis of Raleigh, Richard Ritter of Bakersville and Joan W. Stone of Greensboro to the N.C. Arts Council. Greason is a legal counsel and pro bono director at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice. Kadis is the owner of Centrex Properties Inc. Ritter is the studio glass artist at Ritter Glass Inc. Stone is a board member of the Weatherspoon Art Museum.
■ The Forsyth Medical Center Foundation has named these Kernersville Medical Center Foundation board of directors: Heather M. Camp of Greensboro; Gabrielle K. Causby, the president of Kernersville Medical Center; Arnold G. King of AK Commercial Realty Inc. in Kernersville; Clarence R. ■ Dr. Robert P. Schwartz has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for childhood obesity prevention from the N.C. Pediatric Society. He is a pediatrician at Brenner Children's Hospital, part of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
■ Nancy Harner, a senior certified relocation professional and senior vice president of business development for Prudential Carolinas Realty, has been nationally recognized with the Worthy of Trust Award by Prudential Relocation. Harner also serves on the Relocation Advisory Council for Prudential Relocation.
