■ State Sen. Peter S. Brunstetter, R-Forsyth, a lawyer with Womble Carlyle, has been recognized as an outstanding citizen lawyer by the N.C. Bar Association. Brunstetter is one of 11 citizen lawyers from across the state to be honored this year by the NCBA. He was elected to the N.C. Senate in 2006, and in April, was ranked the most effective freshman legislator in the Senate by the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research. At Womble Carlyle, Brunstetter is a member of the firm's corporate and securities practice group. He was a member of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners from 1991-2004.

■ Mary Margaret "Mo" Ogburn, a shareholder at Blanco Tackabery & Matamoros P.A. in Winston-Salem, has been elected to the N.C. Bar Association Business Law Section Council. She will serve a three-year term from July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2011. Ogburn concentrates her practice in the areas of business law and intellectual property. She received a bachelor's degree from N.C. State University, and a master's degree and a law degree from Duke University.

■ Employees of Senn Dunn Insurance, an independent insurance agency based in Greensboro, have made these achievements: Rob J. Allonierand Lisa P. Smith have earned their certified risk-manager designation; Danielle Hoversten has earned a master's degree in business administration from Elon University.

■ The Forsyth County Historic Resources Commission nominated Kim Mitchell and Jeff MacIntosh, brokers at Leonard Ryden Burr Real Estate, for its 2008 Heritage Awards. Mitchell was nominated in the residential category for her restoration work on the William V. Poindexter House at 225 Banner Ave. in Winston-Salem. MacIntosh and his wife, Susan, were nominated for Heritage Awards in the categories of adaptive reuse for their restoration work on a home at 934 West Fifth St. in the West End neighborhood and in the small-scale residential category for work on houses at 1027 and 1030 Franklin St. in the West Salem neighborhood, both in Winston-Salem.

■ Six Winston-Salem State University faculty members were honored recently for excellence in teaching, research and service. Dr. Dennis Felder received the UNC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence Award. He is the coordinator of the university's sport-management program and has been a WSSU faculty member since 1984. Each UNC campus honoree received a commemorative bronze medallion and a $7,500 cash prize. Other WSSU faculty award winners are: Dr. Bodiford Lee Stackhouse, an associate professor of life sciences, Wachovia Excellence in Teaching Award and Wilveria B. Atkinson Distinguished Research Award; Dr. Sharon D. White, an assistant professor of management information systems, Willie Burke Master Teacher Award; Dr. Azeez Aileru, an associate professor of physiology, John Fountain Master Teacher Award; Elizabeth Priest, an instructor of English, Wilma Lassiter Master Teacher Award; Dr. Cynthia Bell, an assistant professor of occupational therapy, Cedric Rodney Service Award. Each honoree received a plaque and a cash award.

■ Janice Gasaway, a nurse at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been named an inaugural member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses' or AACN, Circle of Excellence Society. She was chosen for membership because she has previously received an AACN Circle of Excellence Award. This newest award recognizes nurses who exemplify excellence in the care of acutely and critically ill patients and their families.

■ Lincoln Financial Group said that Ashby M. Cook Jr. has been named a partner with its PREMIER PARTNERS Program. Ashby's office is at 3825 W. Market St. in Greensboro. Membership in the program is awarded to the company's top associates. Ashby was chosen for membership based on the contributions he has made in serving the financial needs of his clients.

■ Debbie Gitlin has moved from Jackson Music Teaching Studios to a new studio at The Werehouse at 211 E. Third St. in downtown Winston-Salem. She plays and teaches classical viola, violin, and all fiddle styles, including oldtime, bluegrass, jazz, rock and hip-hop.

Perkins of Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem, Deena Qubein of McNeill Lehman in High Point, Diane Rumley of Leeper Kean & Rumley in Greensboro, Mary Lou Voytko of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Mary Leigh Wallace of RLF Communications in Greensboro, and Joan Wessman of Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro.

■ Coldwell Banker Triad-New Homes Division said that Beverly Holly has earned her national certification as a Certified New Home Specialist. She has been active in real-estate sales for almost 10 years and represents home builder Cambridge Isenhour Homes in Ridgecrest at Wellesley Place in Lewisville and Long Creek Village in Pfafftown.

Network Products Guide, a Silicon Valley Communications publication and a publication on technologies and solutions, said that SilkRoad technology's Life Suite is a winner of the 2008 Product Innovation Award. The annual award recognizes and honors vendors throughout the world with innovative and groundbreaking products that are bringing changes to information technology, setting the bar higher for those in the industry. SilkRoad technology's Life Suite offers user-friendly, Web-based solutions that enable companies to manage recruiting, onboarding and life events, performance evaluation and employee compensation, for the mutual benefit of the employee talent pool and the bottom line.

■ Fergle D'Aubeterre, a doctoral student in information systems and operations management, or ISOM, in the Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro, has won the Vinton G. Cerf Award. The award is given annually to the best student-written paper in information systems design. D'Aubeterre's paper, "Secure Activity Resource Coordination: A Method to Design Secure Business Process," was co-written by Drs. Rahul Singh and Lakshmi Iyer, associate professors of ISOM at UNCG who are D'Aubeterre's doctoral co-advisors.

The award is based on how a nurse exemplifies the medical center's key values: excellence, compassion, innovation, integrity and collegiality. Also considered are the nurses' educational preparation, national certification, medical-center involvement and involvement in the community.

■ Jon Duchac, a Merrill Lynch professor of accounting and the director of the enterprise-risk management program at Wake Forest University's Calloway School of Business and Accountancy, received a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in economics and business from the Fulbright scholar program. An incorrect picture ran with word of his honor in the May 18 Business Milestones column.
