The Graylyn Estate said Tuesday it will reopen its Mews operation on its 55-acre campus in Winston-Salem on April 1.
The six-month renovation of the Mews section includes 35 guestrooms, a conference and dining space, fitness center and surrounding breakout spaces.
"In redesigning the Mews, it was extremely important to understand the delicate balance between historic elements and modern comforts," said John Wise, assistant vice president of hospitality services at Wake Forest University, which oversees the property.
"We'll be injecting new life into this area with everything from a new design to an overhaul in technology."
The Mews was designed as the stables for the Gray family estate, although it never lodged horses.
Each guestroom will feature new furnishings and décor. The two-level Silo suite was created as part of the renovation, featuring a round living area on the first floor and bedroom on the second. The Baker suite offers a presidential-suite feel.
The renovations also added architectural and materials elements of the estate's Manor House to the Mews.
"The best way to describe our thinking and inspirations might be that if the Manor House is the living room of the property, the Mews is the den," said Libby Patrick, president of Sims Patrick Studio of Atlanta, an interior design company that helped with the renovations.
